Developing the Civic Type R MUGEN was a huge task. Early engineering and development, was carried out by MUGEN in Japan to create the red prototype that was revealed last year. Then a large proportion of time was spent over here, perfecting the Type R MUGEN for UK conditions.

Road ready

Engineers from the UK and Japan carried out 36 hours of suspension testing, on 2,200km of British roads, to further tune the set up. Then MUGEN’s engine specialists adjusted ECU mapping and throttle response. They added a new exhaust system to improve resonance, then they worked to improve brake feel, seeing a 30 per cent increase after just three days of testing.

Valuable feedback was gathered from UK media and Type R enthusiasts, which was vital in the development process and helped decide the final spec of the 20 exclusive Championship White cars.
